On 9/9/2014, Patty Havlin, Adapted PE Teacher at Magnolia ISD Special Education Department, spoke to the Magnolia Rotary Club about the Special Olympics program for Magnolia, Texas schools. Patty Havlin is shown above.

Patty told the group that she works for the Magnolia ISD as an Adapted PE Teacher within the Special Education Department and that she has been involved with the Special Olympics for almost 23 years. She explained that she has helped coach many special needs kids throughout those years. She helps coach Bowling, Swimming, Basketball, Track, and Baseball and that her kids range from 8 years old to 22 years old. Patty currently has about 35 special needs athletes in her classes. However, they participate in Special Olympics where over 700 special needs athletes compete.  She explained that all the athletes must be able to be independent enough to play using standard rules and etiquette for the sports they participant in. Many of her athletes have gone on to compete in the Texas State Special Olympics. Patty explained that all the kids in her classes are in the MISD and that her Basketball team is so good, they are called the "Magnolia Magic". The "Magnolia Magic" can be found on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MagnoliaMagicSpecialOlympics.
