On 11/14/2017, MWHS Principal Brandon Garza introduced this quarter's "Students of Excellence" to the Rotary Club of Magnolia membership. Many parents and relatives of the students were also in attensance. Pictured from left to right are Sean Skweres, Noah Bigler, Sarah Shingler, Daphne Smith, and Principal Brandon Garza.
 
Principle Garza told everyone that the students he was going to introduce today are all exceptional seniors and outstanding in their own areas. Beginning with the girls first, Principal Garza intoduced the students in the following order:
 
1. Sarah Shingler 
 
Sarah Shingler is ranked #9 in her senior class. Sarah is also a successful Thespian having been given acting awards including Freshman year All Star Cast at zone, Junior year Best Actress at zone, All Star Cast at District, and All Star Cast at Bi-District. In addition, Sarah has been a State Qualifier for Speech & Debate. Sarah has also had an all "A" record throughout her high school years. In her junior year, she was choosen as the "Most Outstanding Newspaper Student" as well as being part of the "Most Outstanding Theater Production". Sarah is also the President of the Drama Club and is involved in the following: STEM Club, Interact Club, Student Council, National Honor Society, UIL Editorial Writing, and Math Honor Society. 
 
2. Daphne Smith
 
Daphne Smith is ranked #8 in her senior class.  Daphne is the school Choir Historian and will be participating in the Regional Treble Choir this upcoming weekend. Daphne is also a qualifer in the State Solo & Ensemble compitition. She is also Camp Counselor at Rocky River Ranch and the Historian for the Interract Club. Daphne is also a AP Scholar and a International Baccalaureate with Distinction. She also has received the State Visual Art Scholastic Event Gold Seal Award and has 170+ Community Service hours.
 
3. Noah Bigler
 
Noah Bigler is ranked #11 in his senior class. Noah is the Senior Class President, the Captain of the MWHS "Stang Gang" (voted the Student with the Most School Spirit) and the DECA Chapter President. Noah is also a National Merit Semi-Finalist and an Inaugural IB Diploma Class candidate. Noah is also the Treasurer for the Interact Club and was the MISD Student of the Month for May 2017. He has also been chosen as the Most Outstanding Student in several of his classes.
 
4. Sean Skweres
 
Sean Skweres is ranked #4 in his senior class. Sean is really interested in Biology and attended a Texas Wildlife and Leadership Camp called the Texas Brigades. He won the Top Cadet Award in 2014 & 2015 for being the camper that displayed the most leadership and grew the most during camp. While at camp, Sean met a Texas Parks & Wildlife Waterfowl Biologist who helped him do a habitat evaluation of a local ranch. Sean then wrote a report and submitted it to the ranch owner to advise him on the methods to improve his wetlands habitat.
 
In school, Sean has played in the percussion section of the MWHS Band for three years. In that role, Sean was the first percussionist at MWHS to receive a division 1 rating on his solo at the State Solo and Ensemble Competition. Sean is also a member of two independent percussion emsembles called Imperial Percussion Theater (IPT) and Monarch Independent.
 
Sean is also an advid Tennis player and has been on the MWHS Tennis Team all four years of high school and was on the varsity team in his junior and senior years. This year, he is the Tennis Team Captain.
 
Sean is also a member of the Interact Club and National Honor Society. He is also an active member of his church where he volunteers for many service projects.
