On November 1, 2016, the Magnolia Rotary Club hosted the MWHS "Students of Excellence" at their weekly meeting. Pictured above are, from left to right: Kelly McDonald (Rotary President Elect), Tyler Burford, Donald Hacker, MWHS Principal Brandon Garza, Amanda McDuffie, Brynn Reynolds, and Kandice Cabets (Rotary President).
 
Principal Brandon Garza introduced the students one at a time and then asked each student to let everyone know what college they were planning on attending. Principal Garza also stated that each one of the students is involved in leadership on the campus.
 
  1. Amanda McDuffie - Ranked #1 in her senior class and therefore the Senior Class Valedictorian. She is also the Cheer Captain, the Student Council President, in Choir, the National Honor Society, and Varsity Track. Amanda told everyone that she plans on attending Hardin University in Abilene, Texas.
  2. Donald Hacker - Ranked #8 in his senior class. He is also the Band Drum Major, is the National Honor Society Treasurer, is an Interact Club member, and in the Boy Scouts (working on becoming an Eagle Scout). Donald told everyone that he plans on attending the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.
  3. Brynn Reynolds - Ranked #11 in her senior class. She is also Captain of the Fillies, the VP of the French Club, in the National Honor Society, and Studio Dance. Brynn told everyone that she plans on attending the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.
  4. Tyler Burford - Ranked #24 in his senior calss. He is also the Captain of the football team, on the Power Lifting team, in the National Honor Society, and is known for having the 2nd highest ACT score in MWHS history (34 out of 36). Tyler told everyone that he is planning on attending the University of Texas at Austin.
After the student presentation by Principal Brandon Garza, Rotary member Frank Parker told everyone about when he first knew he was a Rotarian (see below photo). Frank told everyone that when on a trip to a foreign country, he helped some local women save some babies who had been discarded in a trash can. Frank said that when he held the two babies in his arms, he knew right then that he had to do something and that Rotary was the right answer.
