On April 19, 2022, Deanie Murphy spoke to the members of the Magnolia Rotary Club about the growth of the Magnolia Independent School District (MISD). Pictured above from left to right are Deanie Murphy and Hope Moye.
 
Deanie Murphy provided slides showing the following information about the growth of MISD:
  • The District covers 150 square miles
  • 49% economically disadvantaged students
  • 41% of the students are at risk of not completing high school
  • 33% of students are English language learners
  • The median home value in the District is $290,661
  • The median income value is $92,723
Deanie then talked about the facts about the current MISD schools:
  • There are 15 campuses including:
    • 8 Elementary schools
    • 2 Intermediate schools
    • 2 Junior schools
    • 2 High Schools
    • 1 Alternative high school
  • There are 13,796 students
  • There are 1815 full time employees
Deanie then spoke about the number and types of school programs:
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma
  • Advanced academics - starting in the 3rd grade
  • Career and technical education
  • UIL academics
  • Extra Curricular
    • Fine arts
    • Athletics
  • $20 Million in scholarships
Deanie then spoke about the non-academic programs available:
  • Free early morning child care (starting at 6:30am for Pre-K through 6th grade)
  • After school adventures (Pre-K through 6th grade)
  • Summer Adventure Camp (5-12 years old)
  • Employee daycare
  • Staff Pre-K
Deanie then showed several charts showing the growth in Magnolia:
  • From 8559 students in 2002 to 13,796 students currently enrolled
  • 2020 Census Data:
    • 41.3% increase in District population
    • 22.8% growth in the population below age 18
    • 47.5% growth in District households
    • .13% decrease in District household size
  • A housing market analysis of new and existing home prices
    • Since 2010, the average new home price in the Magnolia ISD has increased by $111,325 or 48.5%
    • The average existing home price within the district has increased by 72.8% or roughly $189,367 since 2010
  • In 2021, the MISD home ranking placed Magnolia at 10th by annual new home closings
  • The top ten surrounding subdivisions with MISD with a total of 28,989 remaining lots for sale
  • Maps of some of the larger developments
  • A ten year forecast by grade level showing total growth of students at 556 in 2021/2022 and 1083 in 2031/2032
Deanie then showed a slide of key takeaways including:

1. Enrollment increased by 556 students this year for a 4.2% growth rate
2. +2,800 home sales in 2021
3. New Home Sales have increased since 2017
4. The district has 32 actively building subdivisions and 18 future subdivisions
5. Groundwork is underway on roughly 1,500 lots throughout the district
6. Enrollment is expected to be more than 17,200 students by 2026/27, and more than 22,000 by 2031/32
