On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, the members of the Magnolia Rotary Club were introduced to the "Students of Excellence" from MHS. Pictured above from left to right are: Hope Moye (president of the Magnolia Rotary Club, Blake Tullos, Trevor Burrows, Nhu Tran, Maggie Titzman, and MHS Vice Principal Mr. Matthew Braun.
MHS Vice Principal Matthew Braun then introduced the four "Students of Excellence" in the following order:
- Maggie Titzman who is ranked #11 in her senior class, is the recipient of the "Rural and Small Town Recognition" award from the College Board, is the Woodwind Captain in band, and is a featured Flute Soloist in the school's Marching Band. Maggie also plans on attending Baylor University in order to obtain a career as an editor.
- Blake Tullos who is ranked #14 in his senior class, is the school's Drum Major, and is an IB Diploma Student. Blake wants to major in Chemistry in college and hopes one day to be a Cardiologist.
- Nhu Tran who is an AP Scholar with Distinction, was the March 2020 MISD Student of the Month, is a QuestBridge 2020 National College Match Finalist (a full four year scholarship), and is graduating as Summa Cum Laude. Nhu wants to study Molecular Cellular Biology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
- Trevor Burrows who is an AP Scholar, Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow, a four year member of NJROTC, recipient of the Scottish Rite Award for Demonstration of Leadership, attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Defense in Washington D.C., is a Marching Band Champion earning the 2021 Wind Ensemble Director's Award, is a member of the National Honor Society, National History Honors Society Vice President, National Science Honors Society and the National English Honors Society. Trevor plans on attending Texas A&M where he will study law and after graduating, he hopes to become a member of the Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG) in the U.S. Navy.
Each student received a "Rotary Student of Excellence Award" before telling a little something about themselves and answering a few questions from some of the members of the Magnolia Rotary Club.
