On May 17, 2022, the Magnolia Rotary Club honored several Interact "Students of Excellence" with a $500.00 Scholarship.  Pictured above from left to right are:Sophia Edelmann (MHS Interact President), Kelly McDonald (President of the Magnolia Rotary Club) and Katelyn Kramer (MWHS Interact President). Not shown is Tess Gallegos who was not in attendance but will also receive a $500.00 scholarship.
 
Mrs. Lora Brown (MWHS Interact Sponsor) introduced Katelyn Kramer as the MWHS Interact President and Katelyn then showed a slide presentation covering the following information:
  • Goals = The MWHS Interact Club is intended to develop leadership skills among students while promoting the power of service above self.
  • Projects:
    • Made sleeping mats out of 100% recycled plastic bags to give out to the needy in the community.
    • "Soctober" is when the Interact Club collects socks to give out to the needy in the community.
    • "Pennies for Polio" is when the Interact Club asks students and teachers to donate their pennies to the RI Polio Program.
    • "Cold Weather Drive" is when the Interact Club asks students and teachers to donate gently used coats, hats socks and scarf's to give out to the needy in the community.
    • "5 Days of Thanksgiving" is when the Interact Club hand makes around 200 lollipop turkeys for all the teachers in the school.
    • "Valentine's Gifts for Teachers" is when the Interact Club decorates lollipops and gives them to the teachers in the school.
    • Held an Interact Banquet to reveal who the elected officers for the next year are.
Katelyn then told everyone how much being the MWHS Interact President had helped her in her daily life and that she will be going to Stanford University to become an Aerospace Engineer.
 
Kelly MacDonald then presented Katelyn with the Magnolia Rotary Club's "Student of Excellence" award and a $500.00 scholarship.

Kelly McDonald then called up Sophia Edelmann to talk about the MHS Interact Club. community.
 
Sophia Edelmann then spoke about the MHS Interact Club and covered the following information:
  • Mrs, Cantu is an awesome Interact Sponsor and it was she who got Sophia to run for the Interact Club Presidency.
  • The MHS Interact Club does a great deal of volunteering in the community including the Montgomery County Food Bank and Animal Rescue.
  • Sophia went to RYLA this year and spoke to how great it was to be in attendance.
Sophia also told everyone how being President of the MHS Interact has helped her in her daily life and that she will be attending Colorado State University to get a degree in Psychology so that she can be part of the Mental Health Community and help people with mental health issues.
