Magnolia ISD Events

On March 8, 2022, Rotarian Amelia Lindley who is the Community Relations Coordinator for the Magnolia Independent School District (MISD) spoke to the membership of the Magnolia Rotary Club about MISD and some of the community events that are held during a school year. Pictured above is Amelia Lindley.
 
Amelia started by providing some interesting statistics about the MISD Profile:
  • 13,750 students (4.7% growth this year)
  • 15 campuses
    • 8 Elementary
    • 2 Intermediate
    • 2 Junior High
    • 2 High School
    • 1 Alternative School
  • 1,750 full time employees
  • Transportation
    • 156 buses in operation
    • 7,000 students transported each day
    • 8,232 miles driven each day
  • Child Nutrition
    • 10,985 meals served each day
    • 1.9 million served each year
  • Funding
    • $1.1872 tax rate - lowest in 20 years
    • Tracking the dollar: 75 cents campus based, 22 cents district operations & 3 cents district administration
Amelia then talked a little about the new Realtor Forum which was set up to pass MISD information on to realtors who can then pass that info on to their clients:
  • First time event (February 8, 2022)
  • Over 100 local agents attended
  • State of the district and growth
  • Looking to do twice a year
  • How the students were involved (floral arrangements, culinary arts and student art)

    • Began as a Magnolia Education Foundation (MEF) Grant; still supported by MEF
    • Over 1,000 attendees
    • Annual kick-off to summer event
    • Free books to kids for summer reading
    • Games, food, fun & books!
Amelia then spoke about MEF and provided the following statistics about how MEF helps the MISD:
  • Teacher grants for innovative projects
  • Student scholarships
  • Coach Morris Grant is "NEW'. Now provides $10,000 per year.
  • Teacher gifts
  • Upcoming Golf Tournament at Margaritaville
Amelia then showed two short videos:
