Lone Survivor Veterans Program

On July 14, 2015, Gari Lynn Hessong, Chairman & Founder of the "Cooking 4 Courage BBQ Cook Off benefiting the Lone Survivor Foundation" in Magnolia, Texas, spoke to the Magnolia Rotary Club about the new program she has started in Magnolia, Texas to benefit military veterans of foreign wars.
 
Gari Lynn Hassong told the group that she grew up in Magnolia, Texas and graduated from Magnolia High School. After graduating, she went straight into the Air Force and asked to be a medical technician. However, there were no empty medical technician slots available so she was assigned as a munitions expert and went to school to learn about bombs and how to make them and disable them. Shortly after that, she was deployed in the first Gulf War. Because of her service, she is extremely interested in programs to help veterans with PSD and other war related problems.
 
Although Gari is involved in ,many other organizations in and around Magnolia Texas, her heart wanted to do something for returning veterans of foreign wars. She found the "Lone Warrior Foundation" online (http://www.lonesurvivorfoundation.org) and asked if she could hold a barbecue event in Magnolia to raise money to support local veterans. As a result of that conversation, she has created the T.U.F.F (Texans United For Freedom) 501c3 organization that is dedicated to supporting and making sure the people that have served us are shown the respect they have earned. Under that umbrella Gari has organized the first annual "Cooking 4 Courage" barbecue event on November 13th and 14th of 2015. The event will have a BBQ Cook-off and a band on November 14, 2015. The day before will be dedicated to veterans and their families. Also, all veterans will be served free at the event!
