Guy & Anita Courtney

The story today comes from two people immersed in the job of restoring the world’s Coral Reef environment. 

 

Guy Courtney spent 25 years in the investment banking world, is a private pilot, testified before Congress on multiple occasions, operated his own cattle ranch in New Mexico while also operating the second largest green and red chile processor in New Mexico. He has been frequently quoted in many national business publications. His dog, Yale, also led his team on hundreds of dog sled journeys through the Rocky Mountains in and around Aspen.

 

In other words, he has absolutely no notoriety within the field of Coral Reef re-development, but does note that he studied biology for a time in college.  He has sailed and has SCUBA dived in the coastal waters of the U.S.  His passion drives him on this life mission of Coral Reef restoration.  

 

Likewise, Anita, Guy’s wife, is immersed in developing the Coral Reef world.  Her business background is 40 years of Corporate America and, similar to Guy, a serial entrepreneur with various business startups. Her underwater love started in the cold waters of Alaska teaching scuba diving and expanded to the warmer climates of Florida, Hawaii, Mexico, and Indonesia.  She witnessed the devastation of the Coral Reefs first hand while living on a sailboat for a few years in the Florida keys.

 

Guy and Anita met after an article appeared about Sanacora’s focus on restoring the reefs, promptly fell in love, and have recently been married in a jail in Beaufort NC.  Thanks Covid!!!

 

Today, members of the Magnolia Rotary Club heard what they are doing to restore the Coral Reef environment around the world and are reminded that their immersion in the subject shows all of us that if we dream it, we should begin it.  For boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.
