On January 12, 2021, Dr. Carol Shwery spoke to the members of the Magnolia Rotary Club about the Human Immune System. Pictured above is Dr. Carol Shwery.

Dr. Carol Shwery has been a dedicated healthcare practitioner for 41 years and is committed to helping people find the root causes of their health challenges in order to improve and restore their health. She is also a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic, specializing in Applied Kinesiology and non-force techniques. She is certified as a Clinical Nutritionist, Therapeutic Lifestyle Change Doctor, Menopause-Type Doctor, and is certified in Functional medicine by the Kalish Institute of Functional Medicine. She has received the distinguished honor of being considered a Center of Excellence business and also the award of Best Chiropractor in Santa Cruz, CA.

Dr. Carol gave a 30 minute slide presentation discussing why a strong immune system is more important than ever before and we, as individuals, can do about it. Her stated goal is "To transform our broken health care system as well as our broken health and empower people to achieve optimal health so that they experience the joy and freedom of a life without limits.

Dr. Carol started by telling everyone that fourteen years ago, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor after a five year struggle. The fourteen hour operation left her paralyzed on one side of her body. She was incapable of functioning on a physical or mental level. She had to relearn how to do the most basic of things. Her recovery and the life she leads today is considered a miracle by all accounts, and would not have happened without the help of Functional Medicine and Chiropractic. She is truly grateful for this experience that has made her a better person as well as a better doctor by far.

Dr. Carol spoke about the difference between "Conventional" and "Functional" Medicine stating that conventional medicine focuses on symptoms while functional medicine focuses on the entirety of the patient. Another way to express the differences is that conventional medicine treats from the top down with medication and surgery. Functional medicine treats from the bottom up by determining the root cause of the problem and thereby supporting patients to be more resilient and thus less likely to contract infectious diseases such as COVID-19 and, if they do, they are less likely to suffer serious complications.

Dr. Carol then provided a slide showing that the U.S. Health Care System ranks last among wealthy countries (see below):

Dr. Carol pointed out that most functional health care providers believe in the following foundation and steps to wellness:

However, when any of these areas of our health get out of wack, that is when health issues arise (see below):

Dr. Carol has written a book called "The Essential Eight" that provides simple strategies to improve our health (see below):

Dr. Carol also told everyone that she would give a free 15 minute consultation to any of our members (see contact information below):
