On January 11, 2022, members of the the Magnolia Rotary Club met at the Honor Cafe in Conroe along with several other Rotary Clubs including the Conroe Rotary Club and the Lake Conroe Rotary Club to discuss the upcoming 2022 International Convention. Pictured above is the speaker Jeff Tallas who is a member of the 2022 Host Organization Executive Committee (HOC) for the 2022 International Convention to be held in Houston, Texas between June 4th and June 8th.

Using a slide presentation, Jeff explained that his committee has been tasked to provide visiting Rotarians with help concerning both the convention and local Houston areas of interest available for sight seeing. To do this, the HOC will need a number of volunteers to do the following:
  • Airport Greeters
  • Host Event Ticket Scanners
  • Discovery Green Set Up / Committee Members
  • Host Event Greeters / Information Assistants
  • Host Event Bus Attendants
  • Host Event Committee Members
  • GRB Information Booth Attendants
  • House of Friendship Committee Members
The idea is that volunteers will only need to provide 4-6 hours total so that each volunteer will also be able to enjoy the convention. Of course, that can only happen if a large number of Rotarians volunteer. A number of Rotarians at the meeting also wanted to work with other clubs to set up buses to go to the convention each day so the volunteers will not have to worry about fighting traffic and finding parking areas.

Jeff also listed some of the interesting areas that will be made available to Rotarians visiting Houston for the first time. They were:
  • Downtown Discovery Green
  • Houston Space Center
  • Host Hospitality Night
  • Houston Astros Baseball Games
  • Lone Star Flight Museum
  • Dynamo Soccer Games
  • Houston Sabercats Rugby
  • Rotary Night at Houston Museums
  • Majic On the Bayou
  • Kemah Amusement Park and Boardwalk
  • Shopping at the Galleria
  • Environmental Service Project.
Jeff also talked about promotional items that will be on sale to help raise money to make all of this possible as well as business sponsorships. Jeff then asked the presidents of each of the clubs present to hold a short meeting after the presentation to discuss how to move forward from here. A photo of the Club Presidents can be seen below:
