On 12/02/2014, the Magnolia Rotary Club met to discuss the next Paul Harris Award Dinner. Dan Lowe asked Real Provencher to tell everyone about his Paul Harris Dinner experience at another Rotary Club that he had attended.

Real told everyone about a Paul Harris Dinner he attended at the League City Rotary Club. To start with, Real said, they only provided horderves and not a full meal. They also spent about 45 minutes touting the things that the club had accomplished before getting to the actual awards ceremony. In addition, they had a silent auction with mostly gift baskets with local business goods in them as well as some wine. They also allowed people to purchase old wine bottles with something valuable inside. What was inside varied but did include one bottle with a $100 bill inside. In addition, during the presentation, they had recipients of donations from their club (either in person or using SKYPE) to talk about how the club had helped them.

After some discussion, the group basically agreed to move forward on a plan to do something similar for our next 2/15/2015 Paul Harris ceremony. Real though we should be sure to have at least 80 people attend and to have different levels of opportunity for individuals to contribute to the fundraiser. It was even suggested that we could use the playing card raffle (that we do at every meeting) to raise money but maybe charge $2 or $5 for each ticket with the winner getting half the pot.

Dan asked everyone to send him by email a list of people they are planning to invite so we could see if we could even get 80 people to attend. It was thought that we should use the High Meadows Golf Club for the event. Dan took the action item to send out the email.
