On 5/17/2016, Principal Jeff Springer introduced this quarter's Student's of Excellence to the Magnolia Rotary Club. Pictured from left to right are Principal Jeff Springer, Daniel Toerner, Katie Nissen, Laila Espinoza, and Luke Hitler.
 
Principal Jeff Springer thanked the Rotary members for allowing him to do one of his favorite tasks and that is showing off his great students. Jeff then told everyone that the 4 students he had selected represented the many great students at Magnolia High School (MHS). Principal Springer then introduced the students starting with the boys first.
 
1. Luke Hitler
 
Luke Hitler is a great student who also happens to be a great golfer who has helped lead the MHS Golf Team to the state championship golf competition. Even though the MHS team did not win, they did very well in the competition. Principal Springer told everyone that Luke is an extremely hard worker who is dedicated and humble in all things and does not do much talking but when he does, others usually listen. Luke has been involved in UIL Accounting and takes a number of AP courses. His teachers say that his smile brightens the room and his high moral character shows that his parents have taught him well. Principal Springer stated that he was proud to be Luke's principal. Luke told everyone that he plans on attending Abilene Christine College this fall to major in Accounting.
 
2. Daniel Toerner
 
Daniel Toerner is a member of the MHS Baseball Team who were the District Champions this year.  Daniel became an Eagle Scout at the age of 16, takes a number of Math AP Courses and is in the MHS Choir. Principal Springer told everyone that Daniel is a happy and joyful individual who makes the people around him become happy. Daniel's teachers say they love to have him in their classes because of both his positive attitude and approach to his studies. Daniel plans on attending Texas A&M and major in Mechanical Engineering. Daniel is also interesting in playing collegiate baseball.
 
3. Katie Nissen
 
Katie Nissen is ranted 2nd out of Senior Class of 412. She is on the MHS Tennis Team and is the Captain of the Academic Decathlon Team and well as being the President of the National Honor Society. Principal Springer told everyone that Katie has a passion for learning and takes many AP courses. Her teachers say Katie always surpasses their expectations and is a gifted an enthusiastic student and a joy to have in their classes. Katie also won the MHS Student of the Year Award for 2016.  Katie told everyone that she plans on attending Texas Christian University in the fall to major in Biology.
 
4. Laila Espinoza
 
Laila Espinoza is a member of the UIL Computer Applications Team and one of the reasons that MHS was the District Champion in UIL Computer Applications competitions this year. Principal Springer told everyone that Laila is a quite individual but is very competitive in everything she does. Principal Springer also stated that other high schools that compete against here in UIL Computer Applications will be very happy that she is now going to college and they will once again have a chance to win in that arena. Laila also takes many AP courses and has received many awards for her computer applications. Laila's teachers say that she is a natural leader and drives hard at everything she does. In addition, Laila simply lights up the room when she walks in and is a joy to have in their classes. Laila told everyone that plans on attending Lone Star College in the fall for a year before she decided which university she wants to attend.
 
Magnolia Rotary Club President Real Provencher told the students that he was extremely proud of their accomplishments and was particularly pleased that they were well rounded students. Real told them that to not lose that well rounded individual when going to college as being a well rounded individual will serve them well as they move into their careers. Real then told the parents that when students are exceptional, there is always great family support of the student. Real thanked the parents for bringing up such great students and future citizens.
