On 8/9/2016, the coaches for the MISD High School Varsity Volleyball teams came to talk to the Magnolia Rotary Club membership about their respective high school teams. MWHS Head Women's Varsity Volleyball coach, Lindsey Durrenberger, told everyone that she came to Magnolia West High School in April of 2014. She is currently the head volleyball coach and assistant track coach as well as the Physical Education Teacher at West. She also told everyone that she played collegiate volleyball at McNeese State University from 2004-2008. She has a total of 44 girls in all of her volleyball teams. However, the varsity team has 4 sophomores, 5 juniors, and 2 seniors. Assistant coach Emily Buckley came from California three years ago as a teacher but this year she starts as the Varsity Volleyball Assistant Coach and is really excited to be in her new role.

Coach Durrenberger stated that before she starts her first real game of the season, she likes to take her varsity team offsite somewhere that is fun while being a team building event. Therefore, on 8/8/2016, she took them to a "Ropes Course" in Conroe where they enjoyed a day of fun and team building. Her first game starts tonight (8/9/2016) at 5:00 PM against Summer Creek HS. The last game will be played on October 25, 2016 unless they make it into the District playoffs. The other schools they have to play are Summer Creek HS, Klein HS, Willis HS, Rudder HS, College Station HS, Magnolia HS, Montgomery HS, Tomball HS, Huntsville HS, Brenham HS, and Waller HS. When asks who their toughest competition was, Coach Durrenberger stated that Magnolia HS is usually pretty competitive. After the two volleyball coaches spoke, the MISD Athletic Director, Mike Spradlin, spoke to those present and told everyone that he is extremely proud of both his volleyball coaches and their staff. Although he started last year in his current position, he has many years of experience as a Football coach. Mike that told everyone that although everyone likes to win, coaches also help athletes build relationship which are critical for a team to function as a great team as well as important in life. Mike also pointed out that with the help of Superintendent Dr. Todd Stephens, MISD is in the progress of updating some of the athletic facilities to help make sure the athletic department is "one of the best in Texas".
